Anti-Palestinians in Wales.
There are plenty of Anti-Palestinian individuals, and maybe even organizations that are located between Aberystwyth and Haverfordwest, I know this after I witnessed some abuse towards us at the Aberystwyth protest and rally for “Kill The Bill Stands with Palestine and Colombia” on the 30th of May 2021, and at the 31st at Haverfordwest “Free Palestine” protest. The abuse that was taking place was online abuse and there was some shouting at the background while we were giving a speech, then what made it awful was when the police officer played football for a wee while with a group of drunk adults who were making some noise earlier and who had taken the football of some children earlier. It was disrespectful and an immature act; we felt as though we were at high school and being bullied by the bigger kids.
The anti-Palestinian comments concerning the two events in both towns were almost the same, as if they been brain washed or fed the same milk from the same place. There was a lot in common with their abuse and their racial discrimination, what is more astonishing is when you listen to or read the slur, and you start to have this feeling pity for them and their ignorance.
I wish I could give them a workshop and some education, including some activities about the matters concerning the occupied Palestine and the Palestinian refugees in the diaspora, in order for them to know the full story from our side and not the side of the oppressor. After this they will turn to a bright person that can think and get out his greedy and selfish bubble. I know plenty of them have a good heart, because they have their own loved ones, their pets that they cherish, and many other things that they value, so then you have this feeling of love that they can share with others, but how can we make them yearn for this feeling? This is my question and I wish someone out there can help me to find the answer to it.
Anyway, I would like to share with you some of their comments which made me laugh when they made me feel as though there is hierarchy of racism. They made fun of my accent which does not make sense because I am speaking English which everyone understood, while there are some British accents that for some British people an interpreter is required, other than this I do not think any of them speaks Arabic or even Welsh. This is not a problem for me at all because it makes me feel much better about myself. However, for them to refer to the Palestinians as they do not exist was not a massive sucker punch for me as I am familiar with it, but it still hurts, because at the end of the day, I am still human. But what is funny that they were making fun of us and saying at the same time that they are going to order a pizza which all of us know it is Italian and the curry is Pakistani and Indian. They are ignorant of the irony.
Here is a link to the speech and the racist comments.
